Immigration rights groups urged to focus on deportation

While Riverside has been a home to a large immigrant population and is generally a very friendly environment for immigrants, it can still suffer from problems that the country on a whole suffers from. For example, in the fight for citizenship, attention is being focused elsewhere and immigration focus in Riverside reflects that.

One divisive issue is that of deportation, which has been affecting more people lately. With an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States, there is no contest that immigration related issues have a large impact on the country as a whole. However, when it comes to deportation, the opinion is still divided. While some wish to step up deportations, others wish to stop it. This may be for a variety of reasons. For example, it has been estimated that Republicans wish to have more immigrant-friendly policies due to the Democratic lean of immigration groups.

However, it has been acknowledged by some immigration activists that too many people are being “lost” to deportation. This has driven some to say that activists and immigration rights groups should stop focusing on the fight for citizenship for now and deal with more immediate problems. In this case, the immediate problems would include the deportation and detention issues that immigrants in custody currently face.
