How is the new immigration order different from the old one?

President Donald Trump has now revoked his earlier executive order on immigration and replaced it with a new version. Here is what you need to know about the key differences between the two.

After the first executive order was issued, there was much confusion as to whether or not the travel ban applied to those with green cards. According to Fox News, one thing the new order does is clarify that if you already have a green card, you are a legal permanent resident and are therefore entitled to enter the country.

In addition, the original travel order barred people from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the U.S. for 90 days in order to review and the process of how people from those countries are vetted. The new executive order kept that in place but removed Iraq from the countries whose citizens are barred, leaving only six.

Finally, the new executive order omitted the requirement that refugees from Syria be suspended from admission to the country for an indeterminate amount of time. The new order amended the suspension to be for 120 days for refugees from all countries across the globe. The original order was met with numerous legal challenges and the new order will likely face some of the same resistance.
